Connecting Kids to their Communities-Using local issues to create informed citizens
I will share how I took an ecosystems unit and changed it to be more of a placed based curriculum about the Yahara River Watershed. We will discuss how we as teachers might use local issues to connect students to science in their local communities. Have you had success with doing something similar? Bring your own experiences and ideas to share. Other topics I will try to highlight include how I use NGSS science practices to assess students in this unit as well as how to partner with local organizations to find equipment and share knowledge.
