Leah Narans is currently a Faculty Member at Madison Area Technical College. She teaches in the Medical Laboratory Technician Program. Responsibilities include teaching in lecture and laboratory settings. Her areas of teaching expertise are Blood Bank, Microbiology, and Urinalysis, as well as teaching Basic Laboratory Skills, Immunology, and Phlebotomy. She is responsible for Student activities and social gatherings and is the IT contact for the department.

Prior to her work at Madison Area Technical College Leah was a Senior Research Specialist at the University of Wisconsin in the Infectious Disease Research Laboratory. While working there she was published many times and was responsible for design, implementation, and data analysis for many research studies. She is an expert in the field of transmission of Infectious microbes through Foley catheters and indwelling catheters, as well as on transmission of resistant microbes through contact and fomites. She conducted research on devices such as the Johnson & Johnson BIOPATCH® and Bard’s BARDEX IC Foley Catheter®. Leah still consults on an occasional basis with this department’s research group.

Leah has been a volunteer Fire Fighter for the Middleton Fire Department since 1994 and has held many official roles there such as Infection Control Officer, Certified Haz-Mat Technician, Company Treasurer, and CPR Instructor. She has been a licensed Emergency Medical Technician for over 25 years, leads her daughters Girl Scout Troop, and is very active in her Church has a Certificate in lay Ministry.
